I thought it would be helpful for new players to have a few tips since the info out there is mostly outdated or is hard to find.

This stuff is just what I’ve learned for myself since I started playing. I don’t claim to be an absolute expert or anything like that. This is just what I wanted to know as I was levelling as a new player.

I’ve split it into a simple list and a more detailed one below where I try to fully explain each thing and add a few more details.

I hope some people find it useful!

Simple List:

There is a much more detailed list below.

1. Save your Star Jewel Supply Boxes, Rune Supply Boxes and Atra Crystal Supply Boxes until you are max level

2. Don’t waste materials enhancing your equipment whilst levelling

You are going to need all the Enhancement Stones you can get at endgame.

3. Dismantle all your unwanted levelling equipment instead of selling it for Asper
You’ll want those extra Enhancement Stones at endgame.

4. Use your levelling Enhancement Scrolls
They are low quality ones and won’t be needed at endgame. An NPC called Amie is in every zone offering repeatable quests for levelling Enhancement Scrolls.

5. Use your Atra Crystals to improve your stats straight away whilst levelling
They are low quality ones, not used at endgame and you’ll just reset the stats and use better ones later.

6. Use your Runes and Star Jewels whilst levelling, you don’t need to horde them
The detailed version below may be useful if you want tips on how to use them.

7. Use your Skill Points straight away
You can respec them any time you want for free.

8. Star’s Tale map completion is easier to tackle at max level but save any items you find with [Collection Material] or [Loot Material] in the name

9. Best Star’s Tale guides:

10. Do ALL the quests
You’ll want the currency rewards for endgame and will probably need the extra XP. Skipping side quests isn't optimal in this game for your first character.

11. Don’t waste your Ancient Fragments whilst levelling, save them for max level

12. At level 30, use your Colosseum tickets every day but pick up the daily and weekly quests first

  • Level 30-39 - Quests are at Ivera Fortress in Lentuth
  • Level 40-49 - Quests are at Morara Plains Fortress in Lentuth
  • Level 50 - Quests are at Humbaul Fortress in Athlon OR Meiville in Ragferant
13. Astel Deck Effects are extremely powerful and you should make sure you are taking advantage of them.

14. Use the hotbar combo system, it’s excellent

15. Astel skills can be dragged to your hotbar and put in combos

16. Channel hopping is useful for farming

17. Do a quick solo Dungeon run and activate the bonus ticket next to the mini-map before you log off if you have lots of spare Dungeon tickets

18. Dungeon Tickets are not account-wide. If you run out and want to run more Dungeons you can use another character

Lots of Dungeon drops can be given to your main character using the account storage.

19. You can get the Login Bonuses and do events on all your characters

20. Sitting down can often be better than using food and drinks because it regens both HP and MP at the same time

21. You can level Astels you are not using by putting them on the Astel hotbar before handing in quests

22. Make sure you are using the Technician Deck Effect when you are enhancing level 50 equipment to increase your success rate

23. You can use the Chemist Deck Effect when dismantling equipment to increase the amount of Enhancement Stones you get

This Deck Effect is harder to get than the previous tip because you need higher rank Astels.

Detailed List:

I go into a lot more detail here about each tip and the reasons behind it.

1. Save your Star Jewel Supply Boxes, Rune Supply Boxes and Atra Crystal Supply Boxes until you are max level

The drops from these seem to scale to your level. Higher chance of higher quality items when you are higher level. I’m not 100% certain but my experience suggests you’ll get better items out of them if you put them in the bank and save them for later.

2. Don’t waste materials enhancing your equipment whilst levelling

You are going to need all the Enhancement Stones you can get at endgame and enhancing your gear whilst levelling only makes a minor, temporary difference until you replace it with something better. Enhancing and upgrading gear is not optimal unless it is Legendary quality gear (orange).

There’s no reason not to use the lower quality Enhancement Scrolls, however. They make each enhancement cost 1 Enhancement Stone and any scrolls that aren’t Legendary quality can safely be used without worry. The lower quality ones are not used at endgame.

3. Dismantle all your unwanted levelling equipment instead of selling it for Asper

You’ll want those extra Enhancement Stones at endgame. Asper is much easier to obtain and you’ll be doing a lot of enhancing when you are max level. You need thousands and thousands of Enhancement Stones.

4. Use your levelling Enhancement Scrolls

They are low quality ones and won’t be needed at endgame. There’s no reason not to use them whenever you want to make your life a little bit easier whilst levelling.

An NPC called Amie is in every zone offering repeatable kill quests for levelling Enhancement Scrolls. She gives higher quality ones as you get to higher level zones. The quests appear on the map. Amie is very grateful for the help.

They make each enhancement cost 1 Enhancement Stone and can only be used on gear that is the same quality level as the scroll.

5. Use your Atra Crystals to improve your stats straight away whilst levelling

NOTE:
Still save your Atra Crystal Supply Boxes and open them when you are max level.

The ones you get whilst levelling are low quality ones and are near worthless at the endgame so you might as well use them. When you get to endgame you will just reset the stats and use better quality ones to, hopefully, get optimal stat rolls.

6. Use your Runes and Star Jewels whilst levelling, you don’t need to horde them

NOTE:
Still save your Rune and Star Jewel supply boxes and open them when you are max level.

Runes are slotted into your gear and can be freely swapped around. No reason not to use them.

Star Jewels are slotted into your Astels. These are plentiful whilst levelling so just pump them into the Astels you’re using and don’t worry about it. Being selective and min/maxing them is only something you need to focus on at endgame. At that point, you’ll just reset them and use optimal jewels to enhance them.

If you want to know which stats you should put on certain Astels, look at their skill list. Each skill will say something like Attack, Spell Power, Status Hit Rate, etc. This means those stats directly improve those skills.

If it says Attack, it means Magic Attack for Magic Astels and Physical Attack for Physical Astels. Accuracy, Critical Attack and Critical Accuracy all affect a skill that says Attack on it. If a damaging skill says Spell Power instead of Attack, Spell Attack does not improve the damage of that skill in any major way. Defence and hit points are always good for Knights, of course, but their threat level will likely be improved with Energy and that will be displayed on their taunt skills. Healing Astels will heal for more if they have more Spell Power, if Spell Power is shown on their healing skills.

Basically, look at an Astel’s skills to see which stats affect each skill and use some common sense based on whether it’s a damage dealer, tank, healer or support Astel.

7. Use your Skill Points straight away

You can respec them any time you want for free so there is no need to save them or anything like that. Swap them around as much as you want.

8. Star’s Tale map completion is easier to tackle at max level but save any items you find with [Collection Material] or [Loot Material] in the name

You can get bogged down trying to 100% complete it whilst levelling and it will cause you to slowly over-level the content. I highly recommend new players focus on the questing and don’t obsess over getting that 100% until later. The rewards from Star’s Tales should optimally be saved for max level anyway and getting 100% costs a lot of Asper. Also, you won’t aggro mobs in lower level zones when you are higher level, which makes it less frustrating. If you really enjoy doing it though, take your time and enjoy the exploration, it’s just more time consuming at lower levels. You do you.

Lots of the Star’s Tale collectables need to be crafted from materials. If you find any materials whilst levelling that say [Collection Material] or [Loot Material] in the name, save them. Some of those materials need to be purchased from the Misc. Merchant in the nearby main town for that zone. Sometimes the material you need is obtained from a loot box that you get from the Misc. Merchant and it can cost a lot of Asper until you get what you want. There is no need to buy any of these expensive items early.

Old, outdated info may tell you that you can not get certain collection materials from mobs when you are high level since they drop no loot. That isn’t true anymore. They will still drop the collection materials no matter what level you are.

You craft them using the Special Crafting skill which is at the bottom of the crafting skills window. Anyone can do it. You will need to scroll down on the crafting window to see it. This wasn’t obvious for me at all since all the info out there about how to craft them is outdated and the crafting options used to be different.

The Forgotten Story objectives require you to use an object and then use the next objects for that story until you get to the end. You have 5 minutes to find the next object each time. A buff icon will appear under your health bar that shows how long you have left and gives a hint about where the next object is if you hover over it. Using Astellia Map is recommended to make this a lot easier for you. It’s linked in the next tip.

Forgotten Stories are sometimes referred to as Lost Stories in some guides.

9. Best Star’s Tale guides:

10. Do ALL the quests

You’ll want the currency rewards for endgame and will probably need the extra XP. Skipping side quests isn't optimal in this game for your first character.
  • Yellow quests are the main story.
  • Orange quests give a significant reward like a Treasure or an Astel card.
  • Most non-repeatable Green side quests give Ancient Fragments as a reward. You want these at endgame.
  • Blue quests are Star’s Tale quests. Pick them up if you see them because they don’t appear on the map. The objectives will not be on the map though. They are unguided. I untick mine in the quest log and save them until I am focusing on Star’s Tale completion.
  • There are [Party] Green quests from the mid-20s onwards. These are hard to tackle solo but you can just untick them in the quest log and ignore them until you are higher level if you don’t want a challenge. You’ll have enough space in your quest log. Go back to complete them later if you need to. You can do them straight away in a party, of course.

11. Don’t waste your Ancient Fragments whilst levelling, save them for max level

There’s one quest that will ask you to buy something from a vendor using them (buy the Treasure if you can). Other than that, it’s best to save them for max level.

12. At level 30, use your Colosseum tickets every day but pick up the daily and weekly quests first

The game will explain what the Colosseum is when you hit level 30, you’ll want the rewards for doing it. It’s fun too. Colosseum tickets are not account wide so you can do it on all your characters. The quests' location changes depending on the level of your character:
  • Level 30-39 - Quests are at Ivera Fortress in Lentuth
  • Level 40-49 - Quests are at Morara Plains Fortress in Lentuth
  • Level 50 - Quests are at Humbaul Fortress in Athlon OR Meiville in Ragferant

13. Astel Deck Effects are extremely powerful and you should make sure you are taking advantage of them.

It’s easy to miss these at first. You can find them on each Astel’s card on the Deck Effects tab. These bonuses work just by having them on your bar, they don’t need to be summoned. Take your time to find a good roster of Astels that give you the bonuses you want. Using the right combinations can allow you to have two Astels summoned permanently very early on.

14. Use the hotbar combo system, it’s excellent

If you left click on a hotbar slot, four slots will appear above it. This is basically a priority macro for any hotbar slot. It’s works bottom to top and will always cast the lowest available skill first. You can set up full combos using it such as: a resource builder attack, a stun attack and then a skill that deal more damage by using a resource and even more damage if the enemy is stunned. You press the same button 3 times and it will use skills in the right order, bottom to top. Tons of uses for this system and makes things much more manageable.

15. Astel skills can be dragged to your hotbar and put in combos

It’s really useful being able to add each Astels skill into your combos. Less micromanagement and it makes sure their skills are used at the right times without stressing you out.

16. Channel hopping is useful for farming

Top-right of the mini-map there is a drop-down menu where you can change the channel you are on. When you channel hop, you will be in exactly the same place. It doesn’t move you to an outpost or anything like that. The mob, gathering and collectible spawns are independent on each channel so you can hop channels to farm things or find things (such as Star’s Tale items that are on the floor). One example of an easy channel hop method: If you find an ancient creature you can hop channels and kill it on each one, looting the ancient fragments each time. If there’s enough channels in an area you can do this infinitely to farm fragments easily. Make sure you hop back to channel 1 when you are done.

17. Do a quick solo Dungeon run and activate the bonus ticket next to the mini-map before you log off if you have lots of spare Dungeon tickets

Dungeon Tickets regenerate even when you are offline. If you know you’re going to offline for 8+ hours, quickly use any extra ones you have if you can fit it in before you need to log off. You can burn a lot of them at once if you activate the bonus drop rate button next to the mini-map when you start the dungeon.

Rough guide:
  • 10+ Dungeon Tickets = Do a solo Dungeon without the bonus
  • 14+ Dungeon Tickets = Do a solo Dungeon with the bonus
  • 18+ Dungeon Tickets = Do 1 solo Dungeon with the bonus and 1 solo Dungeon without the bonus
Obviously, it really depends when you plan on playing next. The rough guide ‘roughly’ regens your tickets to max in 9 to 11 hours.

18. Dungeon Tickets are not account-wide. If you run out and want to run more Dungeons you can use another character

If you have long gaming sessions every day then it’s possible you will run out of Dungeon Tickets when you are at endgame and will have to do some farming, dailies, gathering, PvP, etc. until you have more tickets again.

If you really want to keep doing dungeons all day then you always have the option of using another character since lots of the Dungeon loot can be given to your main character using the account storage.

It’s always an option. Your main character can also give your alt some loot that isn’t right for their class as well. It works both ways.

19. You can get the Login Bonuses and do events on all your characters

This is just useful to know. If I go to make some food or something, I might log into another character to get some bonuses while I’m afk. A lot of the event rewards can be given to your main character if you want so doing these on all your characters can be really beneficial.

20. Sitting down can often be better than using food and drinks because it regens both HP and MP at the same time

If your HP and MP are both low at the same time then it’s probably faster, and free, to sit down instead of eating some food and then having a drink.

21. You can level Astels you are not using by putting them on the Astel hotbar before handing in quests

If you drag Astels you are not using onto the hotbar before handing in a quest, those Astels will get the XP rewards. Really useful if you want to level all your Astels but want to stick with certain ones most of the time for the Deck Effects. After handing in the quests, swap back to the ones you usually use.

At endgame, Amie’s repeatable Parts Collector kill quests are great for this if you want to grind some Astel levels without even using them.

22. Make sure you are using the Technician Deck Effect when you are enhancing level 50 equipment to increase your success rate

The Technician Deck Effect increases the chances of a successful enhancement when it’s active. All you need to do is put Rota, Aida and Tioka on your Astel bar for the free buff. You get all three of these Astels automatically during the main questline.

This only applies to enhancing level 50 equipment because anything under level 50 can’t fail. With level 50 equipment, you should still use this buff even if you are using an Enhancement Scroll because they can still fail.

You should be doing this every time you enhance at max level, no exceptions. It’s silly not to be using it and upgrading those three Astels should always be considered when choosing Astel Cards from packs so that you can increase the bonus you get from the effect. Some Treasures can also increase the Deck Effect if you manage to get them.

23. You can use the Chemist Deck Effect when dismantling equipment to increase the amount of Enhancement Stones you get

The Chemist Deck Effect increases the chance to get more Enhancement Stones when you dismantle equipment. You need to put Enakir, Scorpio and Kukuma on your Astel bar to activate it.

This Deck Effect is harder to get than the previous tip because you need higher rank Astels. You’ll probably be playing at endgame for a while before you can use it. I just mention here so that you are aware of it and don’t forget it’s there.

When you can use Chemist, you’d benefit from using it any time you are dismantling equipment but it’s not as essential as using the Technician Deck Effect from the previous tip.

I'll add one I tell newer players:

If you finish any boss fight with a full AP bar, realize you could have done it faster/more efficiently. Just like controlling your Health and Mana bars, you need to call in extra astels and manage your AP bar. Use their skills, especially guardians and saviors and don't sit there with a full AP bar. A quick way to practice, while fighting any boss, once he reaches 1/2 health, call in an extra astel to help burst him down. dismiss this astel when the boss is dead or when your AP bar drops below 10% to get a feel for how long you really have.
